POS software for small shops in Pakistan

What a small shop actually needs from a POS system, and how to choose one that does not turn into extra work.

What a shop needs from POS software

A POS system is more than a bill printer. In a small shop it has to do four jobs well: make a bill quickly, keep stock correct, remember who owes what, and tell you how much cash should be in the drawer at the end of the day.

If it only prints bills, you still keep a stock register and a credit notebook, and you have not saved much time. The value comes from one sale updating everything else.

The checklist

  • Fast billing for cash, credit and part-payment sales.
  • VAT tax invoices when a customer needs one.
  • Live stock that goes down when you sell and up when you buy or take returns.
  • Customer ledger showing balances after advances, so credit sales are not forgotten.
  • Supplier ledger showing what you owe and what you paid in advance.
  • Daily cash closing so the drawer matches the books.
  • Simple reports for sales, profit and low stock that you can read without an accountant.
  • Roles and permissions if staff use it, so they only open the pages they need.
